Dancing in my younger years didnt seem to approach me as easily like some students these days. Ive heard many students stories of them starting dance at age 5 or 3. Me… MMM no, I started at age 16. That may seem pretty “old” but actually now, I realize I was not. As a dancer, you may think starting dance at a young age may excell your knowledge and everything in between such as turns, dance anatomy, and bone structure but from my perspective, dance is for anybody and no matter the age, its always your time to shine.
In my early teen years of performing in school musicals and small shows here and there, DANCING was not exactly something that came serious. In my eyes dancing was just something to be goofy about. Dancing to music and learning choreohraphy was just “fun”. My family always called me the girl with “Two Left Feet”. For me, in my brain, it meant I had no rhythm and yes that’s what it meant. I always giggled because two left feet doesnt mean you can’t dance. I’ve been dancing for nearly 5 years exact and two left feet, two right feet, or whatever you call it, it doesnt mean I cant dance. In my recent years, I’ve performed and choreographed dances for shows and events. Its been a whirlwind since then but overall its been one beautiful, awesome ride and I’m loving it.
If someone says, you have two left feet, its okay. Moving your feet and arms are not a bad thing. I take it as a compliment because growing as a dancer is the most beautiful thing seeing the progression year by year and day by day.
In the next few months my dance knowledge and technique will continue to grow as I take more classes.
