Hey guys! Its been a long while but, I’m back and super happy to be talking to you guys.
Today I want to talk to you guys about my experience on starting dance at 16 and what its like. In my childhood and early teen years, I hadn’t truly thought about my future and what I wanted to pursue. Silly me did everything in school, mainly sports. Soccer, Track, and Volleyball were the main after school activities I competed in. After a season of sweating my butt off, coming home to take hot steaming showers, and running miles for days in the hot FL sun, I realized that these sports where just for fun. I’ve always had a dream of starring on tv with a few of my favorite actors. Drama/Theatre was in my background since my dad starred in a movie in his early years. He inspired me to become an actor and thats what I really stuck with in all of my high school years. From sports to drama, it was a big change but I had great supporters. I had great opportunities throughout my high school years from having the chance to write a play, direct 2 plays, and choreograph a few dances. Those opportunities I had along the way felt amazing but there was something missing. I just felt like something was missing. I loved acting, it helped me with speaking because I was a crazy shy girl in school, it helped me with my facial expressions and also being on stage and utilizing the stage for everything I do. Acting will and always will be apart of me. When I realized something was missing from my life, my moms best friend introduced me to this dance academy and I saw a christmas show that was played from the studio cast members. My eyes lit up and I was in shock by how beautiful the dancers looked. In that moment I told myself “I want to do that”. From that point, I got enrolled in summer workshops and classes. Since that day in 2016, I have had tremendous opportunities with dance performance.
I’ve grown tremendously and have had the pleasure of choreographing routines many times. Coming from the bottom and continuing to push my way to the top is amazing to me. I’m sure if I started dance at an earlier stage, I would have more stage presence and opportunities but in my stage now, I’m better, stronger, and I understand more. I believe when God knows your path, he will guide you and start when its the right time. No matter your age, he is here. Starting dance at 16 coudn’t have been better.
